4- and 5-string violins

I first saw one of these violins at a Northwest Folklife instrument auction. It struck me as particularly uncomfortable, but my chinrest/shoulderrest requirements are rather exact. I didn't get to play it through an amp, so I don't know what it sounds like. They're now out of business, but you may find one as I did at an instrument auction or used instrument store.

Note that they are not solid-body violins, but in fact are hollow with resonant soundboards.
