Brooks picRichard plays acoustic and electric violins, and his album "Alone Amongst Friends" switches off between jazz electric pieces and traditional fiddling acoustic pieces. His new album, "Violin Electric," will be released shortly on J-Bird Records. Here's a link to their web site, where you can purchase the album.

Brooks has been involved with jazz and improvisational violin music for nearly 20 years. He co-founded the ensemble Solstice to explore group improvisation. The group appeared at New York's Lincoln Center and recorded an album before disbanding in 1987.

Since then Brooks has been working with a variety of musicians and ensembles in addition to refining his solo violin technique. Here are a couple clips of his current style from "Alone Amongst Friends."
