Doug Cameron picDoug's music fits in well under the general heading of "smooth world jazz," or maybe "adult contemporary." Highly melodic to the point of getting a fair amount of radio airplay on "contemporary jazz" stations, his latest album has a nice mix of bouncy latin rhythms (in some cases going well towards flamenco styles) and mellow jazz in the same vein as Lee Ritenour and David Benoit (on whose projects he's played).

I haven't heard any of his earlier albums yet (I'm on my way to the record store now), but I'd recommend his latest album, "Rendezvous," if you're looking for fairly calm but upbeat music. It's the kind of thing I put on in the evening after dinner, and I guess that makes sense since most of the album was composed while Doug played on board cruise ships. (That also explains the wide mix of influences displayed on the album...each port of call evidently providing a different set of musical flavors to sample.)

Doug's past work spans a variety of genres, including projects with Greg Allman, Doc Severinsen, Steve Vai, Tom Petty, George Benson, David Benoit, Lee Ritenour, and Russ Freeman (of the Rippingtons). I'll fill out the rest of his discography when I get more info on the albums to which he contributed.
