Ian Cooper picA swing fiddle player from Australia, Ian has several CDs out that show him to be a very entertaining (and talented) fiddle player. Swing is his main focus, but he's also into some freer jazz/funk grooves. (A sample of one of his funk songs is included below.) He's a very clean player, with strong technique and a particularly fine expressive flair. Although I enjoy his swing stuff, I'm particularly fond of "No Strings Attached," which gives us a taste of modern jazz, some nicely twisted riffs and phrases, and even a wee bit of distortion towards the end (more distortion! more distortion!).

You should go check out his web site, where you can download a whole violin case-full of samples from his albums, and get the straight scoop on what he's about.
