Born May 28, 1917. Died February 22, 1994.
My first encounter with Papa John Creach was an album he did with Midnight Sun called I'm the Fiddle Man. Yuk--straight from the worst of the 70's. Very little fiddle and lots of gross 70's arranging. He redeemed himself, though, with Papa Blues, a straight-up blues album with lots of good fiddle playing and some, ah, colorful lyrics. This is probably the most authentic blues violin album, undiluted by jazz, that I've heard thus far. (Creach also played with Jefferson Airplane for several years. I'll have to check out one of their albums and look for him specifically to find out what he was doing there....)
