Grappelli picNot just one of the greatest jazz musicians ever, one of the best musicians ever. The guy plays the smoothest, most elegant jazz you ever heard, with a technique that I haven't heard matched by anyone. He plays a variety of traditional jazz styles, but his emphasis is on swing. In the early part of his career he played with Django Rheinhardt, and has played with just about everyone since then. He's amazing. Run, don't walk to get some of his albums (I can only aspire to getting all of them. There're a ton, and the list below is partial at best.) My recommendations: Tivoli Gardens is a great album he did with Joe Pass and Niels-Henning, Orsted Pedersen. It shows off much of his best style. His albums with David Grisman and McCoy Tyner are quite nice, and I particularly enjoy the album he did with Jean-Luc Ponty.
