Violin designs have come a long way since Stradivari and Amati. From the minimalist designs of Eric Jensen, to Danny Ferrington's elegant variation on the traditional design, to the transparent acrylic creations of Tucker Barrett, violin shape and construction has moved well into the modern age.

In the pages below you'll find information about nearly every maker of electric violins, plus a few makers with variants on the traditional design. There's also a set of pages for electric violin pickups. When available, I link directly to the maker's web site. When a site isn't available I have a page here with information I've gathered about the maker and his or her work.

Electric Violin Pickups

There are a variety of pickup systems available to amplify acoustic and non-acoustic violins. Most are based around piezo transducers, but some are magnetic. Check out Pickup Basics for more details on the difference between piezo and magnetic pickups.
