To call Jon Rose experimental is perhaps an understatement. He's Australian, and although I've got two of his albums I'm still not sure I understand what he's getting at. But his use of the violin is unique, and the bizarre mix of styles and motifs he includes in his music makes for a fairly interesting background. Here's a snippet from the liner notes of Brain Weather, an album that contains the 27-track piece "Brain Weather" (described as "an opera pervers") and the 14-track piece "The Weather Man": "As with all my productions, it is suggested that after first listening, the play list should be thoroughly mixed up for further and extended cross-connections. For example, parts of The Weatherman can be inserted at random into Brain Weather which itself can be played in any order."
