Violin blackViolin

This is one of the more interesting designs I've come across. Two vertical pieces for the body, with bouts that interlock and look almost like shark's teeth. Kinda cool.

I found out about Scrimshaw via Mark Mitchell, who sent me the photo above (thanks Mark!), as well as a copy of Scrimshaw's brochure. Scrimshaw's instruments are normally black with natural wood (as shown above), but custom colors are available as well. Standard setup is 4- or 5-string, but 6-string versions are available by special request (I assume that means they're more expensive).

Scrimshaw's a trained luthier, and also makes acoustic violins and violas. On top of that, he's worked in the electronics industry making musical instrument amplification systems, so his electric instruments are a nice marriage of skills.

Pricing:

4-string violin: 1200 British pounds
5-string violin: 1450 British pounds
