Silverman picA versatile guy, this Tracy Silverman. His latest production, "On a Starry Night," is a collection of lullabies. His last two CDs were as violinist with the Turtle Island String Quartet playing some really great jazz. And before that, well, Tracy spent 10 years playing rock and "getting into some pretty wacky shit." He's friends with Mark Wood, and the two of them have been exchanging violin design ideas and building instruments since about1980.

In New York he had a band called Stradivarius, and in Minneapolis bands called Motherlode and Gutbucket. Motherlode self-released an EP, and Gutbucket has an EP in the can and is now searching for a label.

His primary electric violin is a 6 string he designed (built by Ken Bloom), played through a Mesa-Boogie studio preamp, Mesa-Boogie 50-50 Power Amp, and then through 2 Marshall 4 x12 cabinets. "Makes your teeth rattle." I'll bet it does. Makes my ears ring just thinking about it....

But just to make your head spin, here's a sample from his most recent production, "On A Starry Night," a collection of lullabies:
