Steinburger violin

Steinberger is best known for his electric basses and guitars, the designs for which were revolutionary when first released. But the violin he designed for the company that bears his name is an equally amazing design, utilizing a fingerboard (made out of graphite) that "floats" in front of the player via a rod attachment to the shoulder/chinrest. The shoulder/chinrest mechanism is particularly elegant, allowing adjustment in all important degrees of motion. The tuners are also unique, taken from the design of his guitars and basses. The violin uses a Zeta pickup, and has a removable upper bout for players who want a traditional reference point.

Note that Ned Steinberger is no longer associated with the company that bears his name. In fact, his current violin design is being produced by Ithaca Guitar Works, and he makes basses and cellos through his design company, NS Design.
