Urbaniak picBorn: January 23, 1943, Warsaw, Poland

The first album I heard from Michael was "Some Other Blues," on which he plays in a traditional jazz style similar (at least to my ear) to Billy Bang. But I've since acquired "Urbanator," and have heard parts of "Code Blue" (clips from that album are available on Michael's web site.). These later albums (his most recent) show him venturing into much more interesting and diverse territory, with "Code Blue" showing off a variety of fusion styles, and "Urbanator" presenting his version of hip-hop (with Herbie Hancock playing keyboards on some tracks). Urbaniak also plays saxaphone on these later albums.

Here are some sample clips from his web site. Go there for a larger collection of clips, plus extended bio, discography, and ordering information.
